I have been involved in WAST from the start. Farhat Khan became a volunteer at Cheetham Hill Advice Centre where I worked, having recently claimed asylum with her children. When their case was refused, I witnessed the family’s terror, distress and disbelief.
We helped Farhat start the Farhat and Family Must Stay Campaign, which became a beacon of hope for many women facing similar situations. Farhat saw the need for mutual support for women seeking asylum and I gave some initial support to help her start WAST. I have been a Trustee since WAST became a charity and I am currently Treasurer.
I have worked in face-to-face and management roles in charities and membership organisations for over 30 years, including in advice and refugee advocacy. I am appointed by WAST member Trustees to support WAST’s governance and its purpose as a place of belonging and voice for women seeking asylum.
